                Ripple’s fur prickled. “What do you mean should they live?”

                “That’s why we need you.” Patch hurried to explain, leaping to his paws again. “We need help protecting them and we know that you don’t agree with Nova. That you aren’t trying to stop the prophecy from happening.”

                “Patch, you didn’t answer my question.” Ripple said as the flames began to die down, their glow and heat dispersing. “Why do they need protection?”

                Galaxy turned, his grave expression hooking its icy claws into Ripple. A shiver flowed down her spine and a sudden dread tingled on her tongue. She swallowed the bitter taste of it.

                “We need your help protecting them,” Galaxy replied with words that piled in Ripple’s heart like boulders, “because they are destined to die.”
